Gulmarg is located in the Baramula district of Jammu and Kashmir. It is at a distance of 52 km from Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir. Initially the place was known as Gaurimarg - the wife of Lord Shiva. The present name was given by the king Yousuf Shah Chak. The meaning of Gulmarg is the meadow of flowers.
